Onam Sadya Menus Bring Kerala Feasts To Cities
Onam is a festival from Kerala that is often celebrated with a large vegetarian meal called sadya.
Restaurants in several Indian cities are preparing special versions of this feast.
The food is usually served with rice, vegetables, pickles, crunchy sides and sweet payasams.
Kappa Chakka Kandhari will also sell a meal box for families and friends to share at home.
Hosa will include several meat and seafood choices.
Some restaurants will keep the recipes traditional, while others will add modern or regional touches.
The menus will be available on different dates from 25 August to 6 September.
People can enjoy these meals in Chennai, Bengaluru, Goa, Mumbai, Gurugram, Hyderabad and Karjat.
Kappa Chakka Kandhari will serve banana-leaf sadya and meal boxes for five to six people in Chennai and Bengaluru on 25-26 August.
Hosa in Goa will offer a traditional sadya with Kerala staples plus egg, chicken, mutton, prawn and fish dishes on 26 August.
HyLo in Mumbai and OMO in Gurugram will present sit-down and contemporary versions of the feast on 26 August and 29-30 August.
Tuya in Hyderabad will serve a Kerala-focused menu featuring sambaram, curries, matta rice and payasams on 5-6 September.
Coracle at BIC Cafe and Uppu in Mumbai and Karjat will offer multi-dish sadya menus with festive accompaniments on 26-30 August.
