Reservation Lottery for Mayor, Sabhapati, Chairman Posts Held Today

In the Indian state of Rajasthan, cities are getting ready to hold local elections.

Before the elections, the government decides which top posts will be reserved for people from different groups.

On Thursday, a special lottery was held for important city posts like Mayor, Sabhapati and Chairman.

A lottery randomly decides the reservation status of each post to keep things fair.

The lottery happened at the office of the Department of Local Self-Government in Jaipur.

Earlier, similar lotteries were held for smaller posts called wards.

Now that the lottery is done, people who want to run for office can see which posts they are allowed to compete for.

Political parties will use the results to decide which candidates to support.
