Rajasthan reservation lottery leaves four city mayoral posts open

In Rajasthan, a state in India, local city leaders are chosen through elections.

Before that, the government holds a special lottery to decide which groups of people can run for these leadership posts.

The lottery is meant to be fair and give everyone a chance to take part.

It was held in Jaipur, and people from different political parties came to watch.

Most of the posts are open to everyone, but many are specially set aside for certain communities and for women.

For example, the biggest cities like Jaipur and Jodhpur have posts open to all, while Kota's post is set aside for an OBC woman.

Some other cities, like Ajmer and Alwar, will have women candidates for their mayor posts.

The lottery was done in person because political parties worried that doing it online would not be transparent.

This reservation system helps make sure different people get the chance to lead their cities.
