India's Next Infrastructure Priority: Quality, Safety and Lifecycle Performance

On Independence Day, M. V. Satish of the Construction Federation of India (CFI) and L&T Ltd. said India's next infrastructure phase must focus on quality, safety, integrity and long-term performance.
India is building infrastructure at a scale few countries can match, including expressways, metros, railway corridors, airports, ports, tunnels and bridges.
Landmark projects such as the Chenab Rail Bridge, Anji Khad Bridge and Atal Setu reflect the capabilities of Indian engineering.
The industry calls for stronger project preparation, technical competence and wider use of Quality and Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) rather than lowest-price procurement.
Technologies like BIM, GIS, LiDAR, drones, digital twins and AI should strengthen engineering expertise rather than replace it, and infrastructure should be managed for its full lifecycle.
