Eastern India Positioned as a Major Aluminium Manufacturing Hub

The government wants Eastern India to make much more aluminium.

It says Odisha has important minerals, while West Bengal has factories, money and transport networks.

Together, the two states could support a large aluminium industry.

Aluminium is used in defence, trains, clean energy, electric vehicles and airplanes.

The government also wants more finished aluminium products to be made in India.

Its plan aims to greatly increase aluminium and bauxite production by 2047.

Officials also reviewed geological exploration and the search for important minerals.

The minister said coal supplies were continuing normally after weather-related problems eased.
