14 Chief Ministers; 4,192 Cases Pending Against Lawmakers

Some of the people who make laws for India are in trouble with the law themselves.

The Supreme Court was told that more than 4,000 court cases are waiting to be finished against members of parliament and state legislatures.

Fourteen out of 28 state leaders, called chief ministers, also face serious criminal charges.

Some cases have been waiting for more than ten years.

A special lawyer, Vijay Hansaria, gave this information to the judges.

He is helping the court look into an important request to finish these cases quickly.

Lawmakers from Kerala are most likely to face charges—95 out of every 100.

Telangana's chief minister, Revanth Reddy, has the most charges, with 89 against him.

The court wants to make sure cases against elected leaders are handled fairly and quickly.
