Over 1 crore PM Awas Yojana urban houses delivered
The government of India has a special program to help people who do not have much money get a house to live in.
It is called the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which means the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme.
The program builds houses in cities and towns for poor families.
The government says it has sanctioned more than 1.25 crore houses under this program.
More than one crore of those houses are now finished and handed over to the families.
The program also gives money to families to build houses on their own land, up to Rs 2.5 lakh.
Special attention is given to women, so houses are often put in the mother's name.
Many states across the country are part of this program, from Jammu and Kashmir to Tamil Nadu.
The goal is to make sure every eligible urban family gets a safe home.
Over 1.25 crore houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0, with more than 1 crore completed and delivered to beneficiaries.
A total of 2.09 lakh houses were sanctioned last week for economically weaker section families under PMAY-U 2.0.
The approvals came at the eighth Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee meeting chaired by MoHUA Secretary Satendra Singh.
Total sanctions under PMAY-U 2.0 have crossed 18.38 lakh, including 14.40 lakh Beneficiary Led Construction and 2.48 lakh Affordable Housing in Partnership houses.
One crore houses have been allotted to women, either in the name of the female head of the household or in joint ownership.
