Buffaloes Swept Into Strong Mahanadi Current Near Cuttack

More than 20 buffaloes ended up in the fast-flowing Mahanadi River near Cuttack.

People saw the animals struggling near the Jobra barrage.

Firefighters came to try to rescue them.

The river was moving too quickly for the rescue to be easy.

Some buffaloes were carried downstream by the current.

Many people gathered to watch the rescue attempt.

Officials did not know how the buffaloes entered the river.

They also had not confirmed who owned them.

By evening, rescuers had still not found the herd.
