IEX Electricity Trading Reaches Record August Volume, Green Market Rises

Indian Energy Exchange traded a record 13,938 million units of electricity in August 2026, up 20.2% year-on-year.
India’s August energy consumption rose 12.85% year-on-year to 169.01 billion units, lifting Day-Ahead Market buy bids by 61.7%.
Day-Ahead Market volume increased 15.0% to 5,517 million units, while Real-Time Market volume rose 10.6% to 5,565 million units.
Day-Ahead Contingency and Term-Ahead Market volume more than doubled to 1,765 million units, up 111.3% year-on-year.
IEX Green Market volume grew 17.3% to 1,091 million units, while Renewable Energy Certificate trading fell 86.6% to 2.91 lakh certificates.
