Captive, Commercial Coal Output Seen Crossing 228 MT
India expects its captive and commercial coal mines to produce more than 228 million tonnes in FY27.
Captive mines are mines used by companies for their own needs.
They produced 68.98 million tonnes by September 10, 2026.
That was about 5% more than during the same period a year earlier.
These mines also sent out 75.68 million tonnes of coal, which was higher than last year.
Production increased even during the rainy monsoon season, when mining is harder.
Nine new mines are expected to start operating during FY27.
Three of them have already started this financial year.
The government expects captive mines alone to produce more than 190 million tonnes.
Captive and commercial coal production is projected to exceed 228 million tonnes in FY27.
