Maharashtra Ministers to Switch to Online Newspaper Subscriptions
Ministers in Maharashtra used to get newspapers and magazines delivered to their offices.
Starting September 1, they will stop getting paper copies.
Instead, they will have to sign up for online versions of the papers.
The money for these online subscriptions will come from the departments that run the ministers' offices.
The government used to buy all the paper copies in one place and pay for them centrally.
Now that practice is ending.
The only exception is the Chief Minister, who will still get paper copies.
The change is meant to make the system more digital and cut down on the old way of buying paper.
From September 1, ministers and deputy chief ministers will no longer receive physical newspapers and magazines at their offices and residences.
Ministers must now subscribe to newspapers and magazines online, with costs paid by their administrative departments after bill submission.
The change ends a long‑standing practice of the General Administration Department centrally procuring and supplying printed periodicals.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will continue to receive physical copies, with the GAD covering the expense.
The shift aims to move to digital subscriptions and reduce central procurement.
