Government Raises Diesel Export Levy, Restores Petrol Charge
The government is changing the taxes charged when fuel is exported to other countries.
From September 1, diesel exports will face a levy of ₹25 per litre.
Petrol exports will face a new levy of ₹1.5 per litre.
The charge on aviation fuel exports will drop slightly to ₹19 per litre.
These changes do not affect petrol or diesel sold inside the country.
The government says the measures are meant to keep enough fuel available domestically.
They also aim to discourage refiners from selling too much fuel overseas when international prices are higher.
The export levy was first introduced for diesel and aviation fuel on March 27.
The rates have been revised every two weeks since then.
The diesel export levy will rise to ₹25 per litre from ₹24.
The petrol export levy will be introduced at ₹1.5 per litre, up from zero.
The revised levies will take effect on September 1.
The export levy on aviation turbine fuel will fall to ₹19 per litre from ₹19.5.
Domestic petrol and diesel duty rates will remain unchanged.
