BJP Revives Niraputhari Paddy Offering at Thiruvananthapuram Temple
The city of Thiruvananthapuram, led by the BJP, brought back an old tradition.
The mayor carried fresh rice from a nearby field to the famous Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
This happened on July 30, before the big festival on August 3.
People watched as the rice was placed in a special hall and then taken into the temple with drums and songs.
The mayor said the city had kept its promise to bring back this custom.
BJP‑led Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation revived the first‑paddy offering to Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
Mayor V V Rajesh led a ceremonial procession carrying freshly harvested paddy from Putharikandam field to the temple’s eastern gopuram.
The procession took place on July 30, 2024, ahead of the annual Niraputhari festival scheduled for August 3.
Paddy bundles were received at the temple’s eastern entrance, placed in a mandapam by Padmatheertham pond, then brought into the sanctum with percussion ensembles.
Rajesh posted on Facebook that the corporation had fulfilled its promise to restore the tradition after taking office.
