Indian Ambassador Says US Has Similar Foreign Funding Laws

India has a law called FCRA that keeps track of money that groups receive from other countries.

The Indian Ambassador, Kwatra, talked about this law.

He said the US has similar laws about foreign money.

He explained that places of worship are specially protected by the law.

If a group loses its registration but owns property connected to a place of worship, the property goes to another group of the same faith.

This helps make sure worship can continue.

Some people were worried that the law stops foreign help to ordinary groups.

Kwatra said those worries are not correct.

He said tens of thousands of groups get foreign money for health, education, disaster relief, research and helping people.

So the law does not stop all foreign help.
