TN CM Vijay breaks silence, proposes Cauvery talks with Karnataka

Imagine two neighbours who share one garden hose but can't agree on how to split the water.

In India, two neighbouring states, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, share the water of a big river called the Cauvery.

They sometimes disagree about how much water each one should get.

The leader of Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Vijay, spoke about this on Friday.

He said that he was the one who asked for a meeting with Karnataka to talk about the river.

He explained that he suggested the talks because he hopes things can work out well.

He made his statement in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, a place where the state's leaders meet.

He also said he does not want to play 'cheap politics' with the river.

Cheap politics means using a problem just to score points against other leaders.

He wants to talk and find a solution instead.
