Sinha urges J&K youth to build local agri-tech startups
Manoj Sinha asked young people in Jammu and Kashmir to create businesses that solve local farming problems.
He said they can learn from other countries but should not copy them exactly.
New facilities were opened at an agricultural university in Jammu.
These facilities will support artificial intelligence, mushroom research, silk production and digital media.
Sinha said farming can include businesses such as cold storage, packaging and online marketplaces.
He also encouraged young people to create jobs instead of only looking for jobs.
More than 150 students have been chosen to develop ideas, and 56 startups have received support.
He said women should have an equal role in leading businesses.
Eight startups and rural enterprises were recognised for their work.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha urged Jammu and Kashmir’s youth to develop region-specific agricultural solutions instead of copying foreign models.
Sinha inaugurated new facilities at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu, including centres for artificial intelligence, mushrooms, sericulture and digital media.
He encouraged young farmers and entrepreneurs to pursue cold chains, packaging, regional branding, digital marketplaces and other value-added activities.
SKUAST-Jammu has selected more than 150 students for idea incubation and supported 56 startups through its innovation initiatives.
Eight startups, farmer producer organisations and cooperative or rural enterprises were felicitated, while four agriculture-related publications were released.
