Kusal Mendis Leads Sri Lankan Professional Cricketers' Association Launch
The cricket players in Sri Lanka have started their own group, kind of like a club for the players.
It is called the Sri Lankan Professional Cricketers' Association.
Kusal Mendis, the captain of the white-ball team, is the first leader of this group.
The women's team captain Chamari Athapaththu also supports the new group.
The group helps players talk to the cricket board, which runs cricket in Sri Lanka.
Sometimes players ask the board for permission to play in franchise cricket, which is like other cricket leagues around the world.
Now the players can speak with one big voice instead of each talking alone.
A big worldwide group called the World Cricketers' Association also supports them.
That group helps players in many countries work together.
This is a big step for Sri Lankan cricket.
Kusal Mendis has been named the first president of the newly formed Sri Lankan Professional Cricketers' Association.
The association was officially launched on Saturday to strengthen player representation in Sri Lankan cricket.
Women's team captain Chamari Athapaththu has backed the association for a stronger player voice.
The World Cricketers' Association called the move a landmark for professionalism and growth of the game in Sri Lanka.
Players in 17 of the top 19 cricket-playing countries are now affiliated with the WCA, with India and Pakistan as exceptions.
