Duronto Express Window Shattered by Stone-Pelting Near Igatpuri; Suspect Arrested
A fast train called the Duronto Express was traveling to Mumbai when someone threw stones at it.
The stones broke a window in one of the train's coaches, which was dangerous for the passengers inside.
The train staff quickly told the police, and officers went to investigate.
They found a man walking on a road about 500 meters away from where the train was hit.
The man, whose name is Sanjay Tatu Sonawane, said he was the one who threw the stones.
The police arrested him and took him for a medical check-up.
He was taken to court, and the judge decided he must stay in custody until August 24.
This is not the first time Sonawane has been in trouble for this kind of act, as he had a similar case in 2023.
Throwing stones at trains is very dangerous and can hurt passengers, which is why the police take it seriously.
Stone-pelting shattered a windowpane in the A-1 coach of the Nagpur–Mumbai Duronto Express in the Igatpuri–Kasara Ghat section near Nashik.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 10, at approximately 6:35 AM near kilometre marker 135/217 on the Igatpuri–TGR 1 railway line.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested Sanjay Tatu Sonawane, age 43, a resident of Chimanwadi, Siddharthnagar, Igatpuri, about 500 meters from the incident site.
The suspect confessed to pelting stones at the Mumbai-bound train; a case was registered against him under Sections 153 and 147 of the Railways Act.
The accused, who had a prior 2023 case under Section 153 of the Railways Act, was produced before the Igatpuri court and remanded to judicial custody until August 24, 2026.
