Early Monday morning, the ground shook in a part of India called Uttarkashi.

This shaking is called an earthquake.

The earthquake was measured at 4.2 on the scale scientists use for quakes.

It happened at 1:21 in the morning.

The shaking started deep underground, about 10 kilometres down, near a place called Rajgarhi.

People in several towns, like Uttarkashi, Barkot and Purola, felt the ground move.

Many people ran outside their buildings to be safe.

Officials checked with people all around the district for news.

Luckily, nobody was hurt and no big damage happened.

Everyone was safe even though the earthquake woke many people up.
