Marathwada Rainfall Deficit Reaches 18%; Dam Water Stocks Fall
Marathwada is a region in Maharashtra that has received less rain than usual this year.
By August 20, it had received 365 millimetres of rain.
This was about 18 per cent less than its average rainfall.
Latur and Parbhani had the biggest shortages.
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar was the only district to receive more than its average rainfall.
Because there was less rain, water levels in 11 major dams were lower.
Together, the dams had 69.06 per cent of their storage, or 125.75 TMC.
The Sina Kolegaon project had no water remaining, while the Manjara project had very little.
Marathwada received 365 mm of rainfall this year, 18 per cent below its 444.9 mm average.
Latur recorded the largest deficit at 40.5 per cent, followed by Parbhani at 32.2 per cent.
Only Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar received above-average rainfall, recording 384.8 mm against an average of 376.6 mm.
Water storage in Marathwada’s 11 major irrigation projects stood at 69.06 per cent, or 125.75 TMC.
Sina Kolegaon had no water stock, while Manjara project storage was 14.89 per cent of capacity.
