Rijiju Questions Rahul Gandhi's 'Change of Heart' on Women's Reservation

Two important leaders in India were talking about women's rights.

Rahul Gandhi made a video saying that the energy of India's women is trapped and that they should be free to express themselves at home, in school, at work and on the streets.

He said no country can be successful if its women are not allowed to express themselves.

Kiren Rijiju, a minister in the government, liked the message.

But he joked that it seemed like Rahul Gandhi had a 'change of heart' about women.

Then he asked Rahul Gandhi's party, Congress, to support the Women's Reservation Bill without any conditions.

This bill would set aside 33 out of every 100 seats in law-making bodies for women.

Mr. Gandhi said his party already supported the bill and asked why it has not been put into action after three years.

The two sides disagree because the government also wants to change the number of seats in Parliament at the same time, but the opposition wants the women's quota to happen on its own.

The bill was passed in both houses of Parliament in 2023, but it still has not been put into practice.
