Chandrika Shrestha Rescued Alive After 11 Days Beneath Flood Debris
Chandrika Shrestha was trapped inside her damaged home after major floods in Nepal.
The floods happened on August 26 in the Betrawati area.
Her house was pushed about 100 metres uphill and covered by mud and debris.
Rescuers later heard a faint voice coming from the wreckage.
They dug with their hands and reached her through a window.
She was unconscious and stuck in mud, but still alive after 11 days.
She was given first aid and flown by helicopter for medical treatment.
Other rescue teams also saved people trapped inside nearby hydropower tunnels.
Armed Police Force rescuers heard faint cries from a flood-buried home in Betrawati on the 11th day after the August 26 floods.
They cleared mud by hand and broke through a window to reach 64-year-old Chandrika Shrestha on the partly exposed fourth floor.
Shrestha was found unconscious, partly trapped in mud, treated initially, and evacuated by helicopter for hospital care.
Her family had reportedly begun funeral rituals after believing she had died, although that detail was not independently confirmed by officials.
Separate operations rescued workers from hydropower tunnels, including Chinese national Lu Haitao, while bodies were also recovered.
