Nepal Rescuers Save Chinese Worker, Woman After Floods
Severe floods struck Nepal on August 26 after an ice, rock and mud collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border.
The floods damaged towns, roads, bridges and hydropower projects.
Ten or 11 days later, rescuers found a Chinese worker alive inside a long tunnel.
The worker was identified in one report as Luhaitao.
Two Nepali workers had been rescued from a related hydropower site the day before.
Rescuers also saved a 64-year-old woman from a damaged house.
She was taken by helicopter for medical care.
Officials said many people are still missing and rescue teams are continuing their searches.
A Chinese national identified as Luhaitao was rescued alive from a hydropower tunnel in Nepal on Saturday.
Reports said he was found about 225 meters inside the tunnel and taken for medical assessment.
His rescue brought the number of workers saved from affected Trishuli hydropower projects to three.
A 64-year-old woman, Chandika Shrestha, was also rescued from a damaged house in Nuwakot and airlifted toward Kathmandu.
Authorities said about 900 hydropower workers remain missing, including roughly 500 believed trapped in tunnels.
