Keshav pledges all-round development of Anantapur on Independence Day
India celebrated a big birthday — its 80th Independence Day.
In a city called Anantapur, a big ceremony was held at the police parade grounds.
A minister named Payyavula Keshav raised the national flag.
He sang songs for the country together with everyone at the ceremony.
Soldiers marched in a special parade to show their respect.
The minister remembered heroes who helped India become free, like Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose.
He said being truly free also means no poverty, no unhappy farmers, and jobs for young people.
He promised to help Anantapur grow and improve in every way.
Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav hoisted the national flag at 9:02 am at the police parade grounds in Anantapur city to mark the 80th Independence Day.
He joined in singing 'Vande Mataram' and the national anthem and inspected the parade with District Collector O Anand and SP P Jagadeesh.
Armed forces contingents presented a march-past as senior officials and public representatives attended the celebrations.
Keshav paid tributes to freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and Alluri Sitarama Raju, as well as local heroes from Anantapur.
He said true independence means freedom from poverty, farmers' distress and youth unemployment, and vowed to steer Anantapur onto the path of all-round progress.
