On Independence Day, the government of Madhya Pradesh is going to let 124 prisoners go home early.

Prisoners are people who did something against the law and were sent to jail.

Usually, people who are sent to jail have to stay there for a very long time.

But some prisoners behave very well while they are in jail.

They follow the rules and are disciplined.

Because of their good behavior, the government decided to forgive the rest of their punishment.

This is called a 'remission.'

Most of these prisoners, 118 of them, had been given life sentences.

A life sentence means they were supposed to stay in jail for a very long time.

The Chief Minister said this gives prisoners a chance to start a new life and become good members of society again.
