Gudur-Nellore Merger Discussed at DRC Meeting
There was a meeting in Tirupati to talk about merging Gudur with Nellore district.
The minister said Gudur is closer to Nellore but has important reasons to stay with Tirupati.
These reasons include big projects like the Chennai Industrial Corridor and a new port.
The minister also said Tirupati is growing and plans to expand its city area.
He asked everyone to help with this plan.
The collector mentioned that many roads were damaged in a recent cyclone and that preparations are being made for a big festival in 2026.
The minister also said the Chief Minister is working on getting a separate Railway Zone for Tirupati.
Gudur MLA P Sunil Kumar formally requested the merger of Gudur with Nellore district.
Minister Anagani Satya Prasad explained that Gudur's link with Tirupati is crucial for economic growth due to key projects like the Chennai Industrial Corridor and Dugarajapatnam Port.
Tirupati Municipal Corporation plans to expand by 270.23 square kilometres to support future growth.
The Chief Minister has instructed the formation of the Greater Tirupati Municipal Corporation with a population of 10 lakh, but only 13 out of 63 proposed panchayats have approved the proposal so far.
Preparations are underway for the Flamingo Festival in January 2026, and land acquisition for South Central Railway projects will be completed by March 31, 2026.
