India’s BRICS Summit Wins Consensus Amid Global Divisions
India hosted a meeting of BRICS countries in New Delhi.
The countries do not agree on every war, trade issue or global political question.
Even so, they agreed on a large document called the New Delhi Declaration.
It covers cooperation on security, trade, technology, food, energy, health and climate change.
The countries condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and opposed terrorism.
They also called for peace, aid and a ceasefire in Gaza.
India tried to keep BRICS from becoming an anti-Western alliance.
Instead, it presented BRICS as a place where developing countries can work together and seek a larger voice in global institutions.
China will take over the BRICS presidency in 2027.
The 18th BRICS Summit ended in New Delhi on September 13, 2026, with unanimous adoption of the 45-page New Delhi Declaration.
The declaration covers political security, economic cooperation, development, technology, climate, health and cultural exchanges.
BRICS members condemned the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack and called for zero tolerance toward terrorism and its financing.
On West Asia, the grouping called for restraint, dialogue, a Gaza ceasefire, humanitarian aid and a two-state solution for Palestine.
India used its presidency and bilateral engagement with China, Russia, Iran and Gulf leaders to keep the expanded grouping focused on shared priorities.
