Mumbai: BMC Records 5,256 Solid Waste Violations, Collects ₹90.22 Lakh In Fines Since April 2026 · freepressjournal.in

Mumbai’s civic body has been checking whether people and organisations follow waste rules.

Since April 1, it has found 5,256 violations.

These included littering, spitting, open urination or defecation, and not separating waste.

The BMC collected ₹90.22 lakh in fines.

In August, it recorded 1,250 cases and collected ₹20.19 lakh.

It also took action against people who dumped construction waste without permission.

Construction waste can create dust, block drains and obstruct public spaces.

The BMC says the enforcement is meant to encourage responsibility, not only to collect money.

It has asked everyone to separate waste and use authorised collection and disposal services.
