Ancy Sojan Breaks India’s Long Jump Record While Managing PCOD
Ancy Sojan is an Indian athlete who competes in the long jump.
She recently jumped farther than any Indian woman had jumped in 22 years.
Her best jump was 6.88 metres, beating Anju Bobby George’s record of 6.83 metres.
Ancy also has a health condition called PCOD.
PCOD caused irregular periods, weight gain, food cravings and low energy.
To manage it, she changed her diet, took prescribed medicine and continued training.
Her weight and body-fat percentage fell significantly.
She now hopes to stay in top form for the Asian Games and eventually jump seven metres.
Ancy Sojan jumped 6.88 metres in June to break Anju Bobby George’s 22-year-old Indian long jump record of 6.83 metres.
She was diagnosed with PCOD-related hormone imbalance after irregular periods, weight gain, joint pain, mood swings and low energy worsened in 2025.
Ancy reduced her weight from 63 kilograms to 55 kilograms and her body-fat percentage from 26% to 13%.
Her management plan includes medication, a diet of vegetables, meat, fish and limited carbohydrates, and avoiding foods such as biryani and Malabar parotta.
Ancy later won gold at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver in Bhubaneswar with a 6.71-metre jump and is targeting seven metres at the Asian Games.

Ancy Sojan’s coach at the Jio Institute
“She has to hold her peak. 6.88 metres is close to her maximum peak this season. So, we have not changed a single exercise. We don’t want to add any new exercises. I know it is very boring for an athlete, but she understands. She has the potential to jump seven metres”
