Odisha to seize vehicles running without valid insurance

Many cars and bikes in the Indian state of Odisha do not have something called insurance.

Insurance is a promise that helps pay for people who get hurt in an accident.

The government found that only about 35.68 lakh out of 1.01 crore vehicles have valid insurance.

That means millions of vehicles are driving without the papers they need.

So the government decided to take strict action.

Special cameras at tollgates will automatically check vehicle documents.

Vehicles without proper papers will be given a ticket called an e-challan.

People who break the rules again and again may have their vehicles taken away permanently.

The government says insurance helps make sure accident victims get compensation.

It is asking all vehicle owners to update their documents right away.
