Tamil Food Pop-Up at Mazzo Highlights Kongu Nadu Flavors
A chef from India named Preethi Raghunandan made a special menu of food from Tamil Nadu, a state in southern India.
She served the food at a restaurant called Mazzo in Hyderabad for one week in August.
Chef Preethi became known when she took part in a cooking competition called MasterChef India Tamil.
She first learned to cook from her grandparents in a town called Erode.
In their kitchen, spices were ground by hand and food was cooked slowly.
She believes food is a way of showing care and love.
Her menu included dishes like jackfruit dumplings, mutton curry, and even black rice ice cream.
She wants people to know that Tamil food is much more than dosa and chicken curry.
Her goal is to share forgotten recipes from smaller regions like Kongu Nadu.
She shows that old recipes can be made with new cooking tricks without losing their flavour.
Mazzo at Marriott Executive Apartments Hyderabad hosted a Tamil food pop-up from August 3 to 9.
The event was curated by MasterChef India Tamil finalist Chef Preethi Raghunandan.
Menu highlights included raw jackfruit kola urandai, Kongu Adai with peanut chutney, mutton neer kozmbhu, and black rice ice cream.
Preethi's cooking is rooted in her grandparents' kitchen in Erode, where spices were hand-ground on an ammikallu.
The pop-up aimed to spotlight micro-regional Tamil cuisines, especially those of Kongu Nadu.
