AMOLED vs LCD Smartwatch Displays: Expert Testing Finds a Winner
I have tested dozens of smartwatches over the years: Here’s what I think about AMOLED vs LCD · livemint.com

Smartwatches are small computers you wear on your wrist.

Their screens can be made in two main ways, called AMOLED and LCD.

AMOLED screens can turn off each tiny dot of light completely.

This means the black parts of the screen are truly black, like a room with the lights off.

LCD screens use a light behind the whole screen, so their black parts look a little grey.

AMOLED screens show brighter, more colourful pictures and make a watch feel more fancy.

LCD screens can still look nice, especially on cheaper watches, and can be very easy to read outside.

A screen called always-on display uses less battery on AMOLED watches because only some pixels stay lit.

However, battery life also depends on other things like brightness, GPS and health tracking.

The reviewer thinks AMOLED is the better choice if it does not cost too much more, but LCD is not bad either.
