Visakhapatnam IT Hub Faces Water Stress, Firms Urged To Conserve
Visakhapatnam’s IT campuses do not have enough water for their usual needs.
The water supply has fallen because groundwater levels and borewell output are declining.
Companies are now being asked to use water only for important activities.
Around 15 companies work at the two campuses.
These companies employ nearly 5,000 people.
APIIC can currently supply about 5–5.2 million litres of water each day.
It is planning to use two more borewells and install stronger pumps.
The new connection could take two to three weeks after approval, while a larger water plan is also being prepared.
APIIC has urged companies at Visakhapatnam’s Hill No. 2 and Hill No. 3 campuses to limit water use to essential needs.
Current water availability is about 5–5.2 million litres per day, below the normal 6.5 MLD capacity.
Consumption at the two campuses has increased from about 4.5 MLD three to four years ago to nearly 6.2 MLD over the past 18 months.
About 15 companies, including Infosys and Cognizant, employ nearly 5,000 people across the campuses.
APIIC plans to connect two borewells near Krishna Miniplex to Hill No. 3 and is preparing a broader supply augmentation plan.
