The money came from Aarogyasri funds and payments intended for doctors and staff.

Two cheques originally worth ₹2,000 were allegedly changed to much larger amounts.

An audit found the suspected fraud on August 29.

Hospital officials recovered ₹22.50 lakh from two employees.

The employees reportedly did not accept responsibility for the rest of the money.

The hospital superintendent then complained to police.

Police registered a case on September 15 and identified 11 people allegedly connected to the diversion.
