HYDRAA, BITS Goa to Install Low-Cost Sewage Plant at Lake
A lake in Hyderabad called Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla needs help to stay clean.
Dirty water from sewage can harm the lake and the animals that live in it.
Two groups are working together to fix this problem.
One is HYDRAA, the agency that takes care of lakes in Hyderabad.
The other is BITS Goa, a university campus with special knowledge about cleaning water.
They plan to build a low-cost sewage treatment plant next to the lake.
The plant uses a special garden-like technology called a vertical flow constructed wetland.
It cleans dirty water in a way that is safe for the environment.
It also costs much less to run than many other cleaning methods.
The leaders hope to use this idea for other lakes in the future too.

HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath visited the BITS Pilani, KK Birla Goa Campus on Thursday to study its vertical flow constructed wetland technology.
The nature-based technology treats sewage efficiently and environment-friendly, at a much lower operating cost than many conventional methods.
BITS Goa is executing the work under CSR initiatives, marking HYDRAA's first entry into sewage treatment of developed lakes.
HYDRAA will pilot the system at the lake and gradually expand sewage treatment works to other lakes, exploring affordable ways to supply treated water year-round.
