Audit Flags Revenue Collection Gaps In Chittoor Civic Body

An audit checked how Chittoor Municipal Corporation collected and recorded its money.

It found 77 problems involving ₹62.05 crore.

The largest amount still to be collected is property tax of about ₹40.38 crore.

Money from rents, building permissions, and trade licences was also missing or not properly recorded.

The corporation may have lost ₹1.62 crore because rents for leased shops were not revised on time.

Auditors also found problems in salary advances, construction-work accounts, diesel bills, and sanitation records.

Some officials who kept the records were transferred before the issues were resolved, according to sources.

The audit department has asked the corporation to answer the objections.

Further notices and departmental action may follow if there is no response.
