India Nears Final SAF Policy to Reduce Aviation Emissions
India is almost ready to launch a new rule that will help planes use cleaner fuel called Sustainable Aviation Fuel, or SAF.
The rule will set up a registry to track SAF, make it easier to store and transport, and encourage private companies to get involved.
India wants to use 1% SAF on international flights by 2027, 2% by 2028, and 5% by 2030.
The government says this won’t change how people fly or make tickets more expensive.
The goal is to make India a world leader in SAF production and supply.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu says the draft Sustainable Aviation Fuel policy is in its final stages.
The policy will establish a national SAF registry, clarify airport storage, and encourage private sector participation.
India plans 1% SAF blending on international flights by 2027, 2% by 2028, and 5% by 2030 under CORSIA.
The government aims to keep passenger and airline costs low, with no change expected in the flying experience.
The policy seeks to position India as a global hub for SAF production and supply.
