Aspiring Maharashtra Police Candidate Dies by Suicide; Teacher Arrested
A 25-year-old woman named Bhagyashri wanted to become a police officer in Maharashtra, India.
She moved to a town called Alephata to study at a school that helps people prepare for police tests.
The police say she was very upset because a teacher at that school was mean to her and harassed her.
Sadly, she died by suicide on August 10.
Her sister, who works for the government, told the police what happened.
The police filed a report against the teacher, whose name is Mayur Dumbre.
The teacher was arrested on the same day.
He is accused of encouraging the suicide, which is called "abetment of suicide."
The police investigation is still in its early stages.
Bhagyashri Bhaskar Bhandari, 25, who aspired to join the Maharashtra Police, died by suicide on August 10.
She had moved to Alephata in Junnar, Pune district, to attend classes at Sahyadri Academy, a coaching centre for police recruitment exams.
Police preliminary findings suggested she was upset over alleged harassment and insulting treatment by academy teacher Mayur Ashok Dumbre.
A complaint by Bhandari's sister, a government official, led to an FIR at Alephata police station.
Dumbre was arrested the same day on charges of abetment of suicide.
