India EV Retail Sales Hit Record August High, Penetration Rises
People in India bought more electric vehicles in August 2026 than ever before in that month.
Sales reached 298,448 vehicles, which was 52.9% more than in August 2025.
Electric vehicles made up 12.3% of all vehicle sales, compared with 9.5% a year earlier.
Electric scooters and motorcycles were the largest group, with 183,204 sold.
Electric three-wheelers had the highest electric share, at 65.3% of their segment.
Electric commercial vehicles grew the fastest, with sales nearly tripling from the previous year.
Electric cars also grew strongly, reaching 30,696 sales.
FADA said lower running costs, better charging infrastructure, customer confidence and government policies helped support the growth.
