NAPA asks Punjab to release white papers on drugs, jobs
A group called NAPA, which stands for the North American Punjabi Association, helps people from Punjab who live in North America.
The group wrote a letter to Bhagwant Mann, the Chief Minister of Punjab, a state in India.
In the letter, NAPA asked the government to share honest reports, called white papers, about two big problems.
The first problem is drugs, and the group wants to know how many drug gangs were caught and how much illegal narcotics were seized.
The second problem is jobs, and NAPA wants to know how many young people actually received jobs, not just how many job announcements were made.
The group's leader, Satnam Singh Chahal, said that saying the drug problem is solved is not enough — the government must show proof with facts and numbers.
He also said there is a big difference between announcing job vacancies and giving someone a stable job.
NAPA believes the people of Punjab deserve to see real, measurable results on both issues.
NAPA demanded that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann publish two detailed, independently verifiable white papers on the drug menace and youth unemployment.
NAPA Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal said the drug problem cannot be declared solved through slogans, advertisements or press conferences.
The association sought data on trafficking networks dismantled, narcotics seized, convictions and action against traffickers' financial networks.
NAPA also asked for transparency on rehabilitation, including the number of people treated, those who completed rehabilitation and relapse-prevention measures.
On employment, it demanded year-wise and department-wise figures on vacancies, recruitments, appointments and jobs from private-sector and skill-development programmes.
