EC Announces Legislative Council Polls Across Four States
The Election Commission has announced elections for some seats in state Legislative Councils.
These elections will happen in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
There are 28 seats being contested in total.
Uttar Pradesh will vote for the most seats, with 11 positions.
People can submit nominations from September 29 until October 6.
Voting will happen on October 23 between 8 a.m.
and 4 p.m.
The results will be announced on October 27.
The Commission also announced elections for 11 Rajya Sabha seats in three states because current members are retiring.
The Election Commission announced biennial Legislative Council elections for 28 Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituency seats in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Uttar Pradesh has the largest share, with elections scheduled for 11 seats: five Graduates’ and six Teachers’ constituencies.
The election notification will be issued on September 29, with nominations closing on October 6 and withdrawals ending on October 9.
Voting will take place on October 23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and results will be announced on October 27.
The EC also announced elections for 11 Rajya Sabha seats across Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal because of members’ retirements in November.
