Chennai airport has opened a new place for taxis to collect passengers.

The facility cost Rs 22.88 crore and is close to Terminal 1.

Before this, many passengers had to walk about 600 metres to find their app-based taxis.

The new plaza can manage about 5,000 taxi pickups each day.

It should make travel easier for older people, pregnant women, people with disabilities and families with children.

The airport is also adding staff to help passengers find their way.

Battery-operated vehicles will continue carrying passengers between terminals and car parks.

New baggage trolleys and more medical equipment are also being planned or added.

The airport is building Terminal 3 and hopes to finish it by April next year.
