TN finance minister: won't spare those who touched people's money
The leader who takes care of money in the state of Tamil Nadu, called the Finance Minister, gave an important speech.
He said the government will never misuse people's tax money, not even a single coin.
He promised that anyone who took people's money unfairly will be punished.
He said the new government stopped some people from cheating on building contracts in the past.
There are new rules now, so permission for tall buildings can be given more fairly.
The government will collect more money from companies that make drinks called liquor.
It will also use computers to check taxes in a fair way, called Faceless Assessment.
These steps are expected to bring in a lot of extra money to help the people of the state.
A special team of experts will also think of more good ways for the state to earn money.
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister N Marie Wilson addressed the Assembly on the revised budget estimates for 2026-27, vowing a corruption-free, transparent regime.
Wilson said the government will not spare anyone who touched people's tax money, a veiled swipe at the previous DMK regime that was in power from May 2021 to May 2026.
He alleged a significant portion of tender estimates was cornered by a few individuals and certain political parties before the TVK assumed office.
New measures include an additional privilege fee on liquor manufacturers (up to Rs 1,000 crore a year) and IT initiatives such as Faceless Assessment under GST and Faceless Registration (about Rs 15,000 crore).
An expert committee on Revenue Augmentation headed by Montek Singh Ahluwalia, with five other members, will suggest ways to increase tax and non-tax revenue.
