200-Tonne Crane Topples During Kurla Operation, Several Injured
A very large crane was being used in Kurla East, Mumbai, to lift a digging machine to a tall building.
The crane lost its balance and fell at about 2:45 a.m.
on August 21.
Its long metal arm landed on nearby homes and vehicles.
Some people inside the homes and other residents were hurt.
No one was reported killed.
The injured people were taken to Sion Hospital.
Police said the crane operator and contractor may not have used enough safety measures.
Police are still investigating what caused the accident.
A 200-tonne SANY crane toppled around 2:45 a.m. on August 21 in Kurla East, Mumbai.
The crane was lifting a Poclain machine to the 16th floor of Galaxy MHADA Apartment.
Its boom crashed onto nearby houses, cars, autorickshaws and the Burma railway line.
Several residents, including members of the Khan family, were injured and taken to Sion Hospital; no deaths were reported.
Chunabhatti police registered an FIR alleging negligence and inadequate safety precautions by the crane operator and contractor.
