Tamil Nadu Announces Major Healthcare Expansion With New Hospital

The Tamil Nadu government has announced several plans to improve public healthcare.

A new 400-bed specialist hospital will be built in Perambur for about Rs 300 crore.

It is intended to help people in North Chennai access advanced treatment.

Health insurance coverage for eligible people will increase from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.

Transgender people will receive coverage for medical and surgical procedures at seven government hospitals.

The government also plans to add thousands of places for students studying nursing, paramedical subjects and pharmacy.

More money will be spent on cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention across the State.

The government says healthcare should be available to everyone, regardless of income or location.
