Indian Railways commissions Kavach 4.0 on 738 km
Indian Railways has started using a new safety system called Kavach 4.0 on two very busy train routes: Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah.
This system helps trains avoid collisions.
It has been tested and is now working on 738 kilometers of tracks.
The system includes special cables, towers, and equipment on the tracks and trains.
More trains and tracks will get this safety system soon.
The government is also working on making trains safer for women by adding cameras and emergency buttons.
The system costs about Rs 50 lakh per kilometer for the tracks and Rs 80 lakh per train.
So far, Rs 2,354.36 crore has been spent on this project, with more money allocated for next year.
Over 40,000 people have been trained to use this new system.

Kavach 4.0 is an upgraded version of the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, designed to prevent train collisions.
The system has been installed on the Palwal-Mathura-Nagda section (633 Rkm) and Howrah-Bardhaman section (105 Rkm).
Major improvements in Kavach 4.0 include increased location accuracy, better signal information in larger yards, and direct integration with electronic interlocking systems.
The system costs about Rs 50 lakh per kilometer for trackside installation and Rs 80 lakh per locomotive, with Rs 2,354.36 crore spent so far and Rs 1,673.19 crore allocated for 2025-26.
