Karnataka Cabinet Reviews Rs 5,000-Crore Coastal Development Demands
Manjunath Bhandary has asked Karnataka’s government to spend Rs.
5,000 crore on coastal districts.
Chief Minister D K Shivakumar told the Chief Secretary to study the requests.
The government may discuss them at a Cabinet meeting in Mangaluru on September 18.
The plans cover roads, tourism, fishing and farming.
They also seek better answers to coastal erosion.
Some proposals would create or upgrade universities and training centres.
Other requests would support Yakshagana, Kambala, sports and the Pilikula project.

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar asked the Chief Secretary to examine key proposals for the September 18 Mangaluru Cabinet meeting.
The demands include action on coastal erosion, fisheries infrastructure, higher compensation for fishermen’s families and increased boat diesel subsidies.
Proposals seek new or upgraded agricultural, fisheries and sports universities, along with a coastal tourism network and parallel road.
Bhandary also requested funding for Pilikula, cultural traditions, skill development, sports facilities and an international convention centre.
