Smriti Irani: Jantar Mantar Protest Was a Machiavellian Playbook
"Machiavellian Playbook Was Very Obvious": Smriti Irani on Jantar Mantar Protest · NDTV

A big leader from the BJP party, Smriti Irani, talked about a big protest that happened last month in New Delhi, at a famous place called Jantar Mantar.

She said the protest was not really about young people, but was planned and brought together by many different political groups.

She said some of those groups included the ultra-left, the Left, liberal groups, the Aam Aadmi Party and the INDIA bloc.

She also said that at the protest people shouted 'Azadi' and were rude to the army, the courts and other important institutions.

Mrs. Irani said young people in India serve the country as soldiers, doctors, engineers and in the police, and that they should not be blamed for that protest.

She compared the Delhi protest with peaceful student protests in Jharkhand, Mumbai and Pune, where no one abused the armed forces.

She praised the peaceful students and said abuse of institutions and the armed forces can never be accepted.

She also said the Prime Minister has answered young people's real problems and has always talked to them on Instagram.

She said the leader of the opposition did not go to the protest but only wanted his own photo opportunities.

In the end, she said protests are fine as long as people respect the country and its forces.

Quotes

Smriti Irani

BJP MP and minister

“"What we saw at Jantar Mantar was an assimilation of various political groups that were presenting themselves as a pressure group. There was the ultra-left, the Left, liberal groups, the Aam Aadmi Party and some from the INDIA bloc. To presume that it was an assimilation of Gen Z is to belie the fact that is staring us in the face."”
