Women’s IIT Intake Rises 52% Since 2019, Share Edges Up

More women joined India’s top engineering colleges in 2025 than in 2019.

The number increased from 2,416 to 3,664.

That is about 52% more women.

The total number of seats also grew, but by a smaller amount.

Because of this, women’s share rose from about 18% to about 20%.

The government added extra seats for women to help improve gender balance.

These extra seats were not supposed to take away seats from other students.

By 2025, nearly every IIT had around one woman for every four students.

The increase was seen across many IIT campuses rather than only a few.
