Russian missiles kill 17 in Kyiv; Zelenskiy pleads for interceptors

On a summer night, Russia sent very fast rockets and flying drones to attack Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine.

Many of the drones were stopped, but the fastest rockets were not, and at least 17 people died.

In the morning, warehouses and shops that store things were burning.

Some big stores, like Epicentr and Rozetka, lost buildings they spent years building.

The leader of Ukraine, President Zelenskiy, said better protective missiles called Patriots could have stopped the rockets and saved lives.

Ukraine does not have enough of these missiles and wants its friends in other countries to send more.

Russia says it was aiming at places that hold parts for military drones, but Ukraine says the places hit were normal businesses.

Ukraine's own drones are also attacking warehouses in Russia.

Both countries say they do not want to hurt regular people, but many are getting hurt.
